A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of John E. Gotherman, 68, of Newark, will be held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 25, 2023, with Fr. Anthony Lonzo as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster.

John died at his home on Monday, August 21, 2023.  He was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 21, 1955, to Joan (Ferguson) Gotherman, of Newark, and the late John E. Gotherman.

John was a graduate of Reynoldsburg High School and Eastland Vocational School. He studied fine arts at Rio Grande University and excelled in photography, sculpture, and drawing.

In addition to his mother, John is survived by his sisters, Clara Ann Smith and JoAnn (Philip) King; nieces and nephews, David G. (Allison) Smith, Jennifer B. Smith (Matt Mick), Amber (Hank) Hill, Josh (Jennifer) Watkins, and Ben King; great nieces and nephews, Anthony, Glenn, Harrison, Addison, Collin, Aidaleen, Tyler, and Levi; aunt, Helen Voldness.

In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Glenn Smith.

Friends and family may call from 5-7 P.M, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 P.M.
