A Mass of Christian Burial for John Boyle Ewing, 70, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 29, 2023, with Fr. Mark Ghiloni as celebrant and Fr. Don Franks as concelebrant. Burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster, will be held at a later date.

John passed away on December 20, 2023. He was born on March 6, 1953, in Columbus Ohio.

John was a graduate of Newark Catholic High School Class of 1971, a community where he truly found his home. He also attended the Ohio State University where he studied horticulture.

John dedicated many years to Oakland Nursery. He was known for his work ethic and his endearing personality.

A devout Catholic, he was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.

John Ewing was truly a renaissance man whose passions were varied and included trains, American history, Newark Catholic athletics, fish fries, discovering new music, staying current with the lives of his friends and being Poppy to his grandchildren.  John enjoyed taking the long way and never knew a stranger.

Preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Martha Ewing, brother Tom, sister Mary Crowe and brother-in-law Paul Hahn, and his best friend Dave Fisher.

Survived by his devoted and loving wife of 45 years Sarah (Hahn) Ewing, his children Anne and Cory Davis, Elizabeth Ewing and Morgan Schweitzer, Daniel Ewing, his brother William Ewing and his grandchildren Maeve, Charlie and Harry, brothers-in-law, Walter Crowe, and John (Christy) Hahn, sister-in-law, Connie Hahn, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends and coworkers.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Thursday, December 28, 2023, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Newark Catholic Foundation or the Blessed Sacrament St. Vincent de Paul Society.
