Graveside funeral services for John "Jack" Bruce Ewald, of Newark, will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 11 A.M., Friday, December 1, 2023, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant.

Jack, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on August 4, 1929, to the late Bernard and Louise (Bennett) Ewald.

A 1948 graduate of Newark High School, Jack received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from Ohio University in 1953 and was a charter member of their Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

He was employed with North American Aviation and Worthington Foods where he worked for many years as a buyer.  Following retirement, Jack worked 21 years in the Linen and Men's Departments of Elder Beerman, Indian Mound Mall, where he developed great friendships with his co-workers and the many devoted customers who remember him fondly. Jack was also a member of the Newark Jaycees and The Works.

The last of his immediate family, Jack will be missed by longtime family friends, Judy Franklin, and Steve and Linda Dimon.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Bennett Ewald, and infant sister, Barbara Lou Ewald.
