Obituary

Graveside Services for Joanna M. (DeVito) Bolin, 84, of Newark, will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, 11 A.M., Saturday December 7, 2024, with Rev. Gary Sidle as celebrant

She was the oldest born child of John A. and Anna M. (Danese) DeVito's five children, growing up on North 21st Street. She, like her siblings, was a frequent helper at DeVito's Bookstore in downtown Newark, which her father ran for decades.

A member of the last graduating class of St. Francis de Sales High School, 1958, Joanna received her Nursing Degree from the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in 1962. She went on to work at several hospitals and doctors' offices across the country, including Newark, Columbus, San Francisco, Boston and Washington D.C.

Later in life, Joanna found her niche participating in craft shows. She also repurposed the DeVito family soda fountain that had been in her father's bookstore and gave it a new life at Finders Keepers in Heath.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Russell J. Irmscher. She is survived by her siblings Julia DeVito, Carolyn Irmscher, John (Martha) DeVito, and Jeff (Bonnie) DeVito (her primary caregiver), five nieces and nephews, six great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and other family members.

Because of her dedication to medicine, Joanna donated her body to The Ohio State University Division of Anatomy to help with the advancement of medical studies.

Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date at St. Jospeh Cemetery, Newark, where Joanna will be laid to rest with her parents.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Licking County Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
