A Funeral Mass for Joann Jeffries, 89, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 16, 2016 with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.
Joann died at the home of her niece on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. She was born in Newark, Ohio on May 30, 1926 to the late Edward L. and Mary C. (Winters) Weisgerber.
Joann, a 1944 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, was retired from the Roper Company where she worked as the corporate secretary for 20 years. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was a member of the Women of St. Francis and the Ministry of Comfort Team 6. She was a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the St. Francis School cafeteria. Joann also enjoyed bingo and was in the same bridge club for over fifty years.
Affectionately known as "Joby" and "Aunt Jo", she was always welcoming with her warm smile and sense of humor. As the matriarch, she kept tabs on what was happening in her family, the community and current events; making her the go-to person for a great conversation. Her loyalty exceeded no other, whether it be to LAY'S Classic Potato Chips, her husband Warren, or Indiana basketball.
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she greatly cherished and always welcomed into her home. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Mary Crumrine; and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Warren J. Jeffries, in 2008; her brother, Don (Sarah) Weisgerber; and her sisters, Jeanne (Skip) Russell and Rosemary (Bob) Jones.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M., Friday, April 15, 2015, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
