A Funeral Mass for Joan Yvonne Rose, 83, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Joan, a lifelong parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at the Chestnut House on Friday, February 17, 2017. She was born in Newark, Ohio on June 9, 1933 to the late Albert and Dorothy (Harper) Degler.
Joan enjoyed reading, swimming, playing Bingo, and Saturday morning shopping. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Widows and Widowers Club, several card and euchre clubs, including the Catholic Women's Card Club, of which she was also the treasurer. Above all, Joan cherished the time she spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Dennis) Shirk and Brenda (Terry) Hynds; granddaughter, Kimberly Furgye (Zach Young); great grandchildren, Kyla, Talan, and Kaden; great-great-granddaughter, Jazlynn; siblings, Roland Degler, Jack (Ida) Degler, Joe Degler, Mildred Ashbrook, and Betty Mortimer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Rose Jr.; her sisters, Kathryn Arbaugh; Evelyn Edwards, Lois Emmons, Nellie (Earl) Rhodes, Marie (Dick) Arbaugh, and Sue (Willard) Lowry; and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Alma Degler.
Friends and family may call from 5-7 P.M., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 P.M.
