A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan Marie Ronan, 81, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2023, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Inurnment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Joan died at her home on Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 23, 1941, to the late James E. and Marie Jane (Krueger) Grady Sr.

A member of the first graduating class of Newark Catholic High School, Class of 1959, Joan retired from the Domestic Courts where she worked as a deputy clerk.

She was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and her involvement with parish activities was almost on a daily basis. Joan was an adult server and ministered frequently for the church funerals. She volunteered as an Adorer, was a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Ministry of Comfort, and was an RICA Sponsor. Joan made many friends at St. Francis Parish, and through the many Bible studies with Soul Sisters and Walking with Purpose, these friends became her extended family.

Joan also ministered to the poor in the community and volunteered with COM, ( Catholic Outreach Ministries), St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store and was an advocate for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

She will be greatly missed by her sons, Scott Ronan (Michael Williams), Matt (Deanna) Ronan, and Jeff (Julie) Ronan; 5 grandchildren, Kylie, Kaitlynne, Tyler, Drew, Nathan; one great-grandchild, Oliver; siblings, Kathy Carr, James Grady Jr., and Janet Aguilar; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Grady; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dear friends, the "Golden Girls", whom she met weekly at the Buckeye Winery to share a glass of wine and many laughs.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her infant brother, Patrick; sister, Carol Grady; and brother-in-law Harry Carr.

The family requests memorials in Joan's name be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
