A 1952 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Joan received her RN Degree from the Mount Carmel School of Nursing and worked at the Newark Hospital and Dr. Kennedy's medical office. She also worked with her late husband, Floyd McKenna, as owner and operator of Maybold's Shoe Store for many years.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Anne (Mark) Recznik, Patricia (Doug) Warthen, Daniel (Jill) McKenna, and Timothy McKenna; grandchildren, Bridget (Matt), Monica (Jackson) Mary Clare (Ben) Theresa (Max) Christina, Judson, Sadie (Nate), Laney (Ben), Katherine (Bret); Maddie, Parker, J.T., Caroline, and Connor: great-grandchildren, Lydia, Stella, Evelyn, Shannon, Sullivan, Ellis, Shepherd, Grant, Wren, Briggs, and Reid; brother, Ernest "Sonny" (Krista) Young; sister, Jane Lafferty; and several nieces and nephews.
Joan was a devoted to her faith and her family (and her dogs). She took great pride in creating a home for her family, making all feel welcome and loved.
She was an avid gardener and volunteered for many years tending the flower beds around St. Francis Church which brought her such great joy over the years. In her memory and honor, the family requests that you not send flowers to the funeral, but rather to someone you know who might need a little token of joy to brighten their day.
