A Funeral Mass for Jerry J. Wieber, 67, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 3, 2015, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest, as celebrant.

Jerry died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 29, 2015. He was born in Newark, Ohio on November 23, 1948 to the late Joseph D. and Louise (Francis) Wieber.

Jerry grew up on S. 5th Street in a time when that truly meant something to the neighborhood folks. He attended St. Francis and graduated from Newark Catholic High School in 1966. He owned and operated several bars/ restaurants in his lifetime and worked at several others. He was an avid golfer, coached countless baseball teams, and supported both his children as they participated in athletics at Newark High School. Jerry was a lifelong Yankees fan and a dedicated wearer of windpants. Most recently, Jerry spent a lot of time fishing, playing penny slots at the casino and above all, enjoying moments with his grandsons.

These are facts about Jerry's life but they don't give and accurate picture of how he lived it. If you knew "Webo" or "Beef" you knew exactly what that means. For those who didn't know him personally, it's nearly a guarantee that you know someone who did. He had a way of making you feel like the Cheers song, "You wanna be where everybody knows your name, where they're always glad you came." He was loud and boisterous and opinionated; but also kind, generous and very funny. Jerry genuinely loved being around people – teasing, learning, mentoring, entertaining. Mention his name to anyone who has met him and they will smile in recognition of a life well lived. Jerry died too early but he always lived life in the fullest way he knew. He will be greatly missed by many.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia (Schlosser) Wieber; daughter, Stacy (Collin) Kirk, son, Zach (Leslie) Wieber; grandsons, Judd Kirk, Brock, Drew, and Tyrus Wieber; sisters, Nancy Shonebarger and Barbara (Ray) Parkhill; aunt, Janet Wieber; sister-in-law, Bonnie Schlosser; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:45 P.M. The Newark Elks will also conduct a service at 6:30 P.M.
