Jeffrey
Nickles
Feb 19, 1959 — Mar 16, 2024
Newark
A Celebration of Life for Jeffrey Allen Nickles will be held at the home of his son, Jason, 2 P.M., Sunday, April 21, 2024.
Jeffrey moved peacefully to the next life on Saturday, March 16, 2024, surrounded in his final hours by the people he loved most. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on February 19, 1959, to the late Charles and Margie (Lake) Nickles Sr.
Jeff never met a stranger and was always the most likable person in the room. An attendee of Lakewood High school, Jeff was an excellent athlete even though he never realized his full potential. He played baseball, football, track and basketball, the latter being his favorite. Following high school, he studied Judo, and in the late 70's and early 80's he could be found skiing on Buckeye Lake or schooling friends in Jarts across from Cranberry bog. He was an excellent golfer and was always a sought-after partner on family golf outings, often being on the winning foursome.
When his parents retired to Florida, Jeff jumped at the opportunity for a change of scenery and made the move with them. He held varied jobs spanning many industries, with roofing being his most knowledgeable and longest career.
Jeff always made you laugh, sometimes intentional and sometimes not. Like his father, he had a gift of bestowing nicknames such as Oodie, Jater bug, and Gas Pump, just to name a few. Though he struggled with the finer points of life, Jeff always maintained his heart of gold. He loved rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns and enjoyed playing the harmonica.
He is survived by his son Jason Nickles; daughter Jennifer Nickles Wheeler (Thomas); 3 grandchildren Karoline, Thomas, and Aerin; sister, Linda Nickles Thornton (Richard); brother Charles Nickles Jr.; nieces and nephews, Steven, Elizabeth, Abbie, Chance, Joe and Chelsea and their children Mason, Maddex, and Leilah; loving friends, Joe and Dorie Overman; and many cousins and friends.
Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, is assisting the family with arrangements. To share your memory of Jeff or leave condolence for the family, please visit www.reedegan.com
