Janet E.
Wieber
May 17, 1931 — Jul 31, 2023
Newark
A Celebration of Life for Janet E. Wieber, 92, of Newark, will be held at Moundbuilders Country Club, 12-2 P.M., Sunday, August 27, 2023.
Janet passed away at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, July 31, 2023. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio on May 17, 1931, to the late Orville and Hilda (Kochensbarger) Hood.
A 1949 graduate of Frazeysburg High School, Janet was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, and greatly loved the game of golf, sewing, and playing cards, especially bridge and euchre. She was a member of the Newark Druids and past president of Rosina Circle.
Janet worked with her husband, John, as former owner and operator of the Cedar Street Market, and also assisted him with his endeavors at North Newark Little League.
Beginning in 1986, Janet opened Wieber's Sweet Shop, a home-based business that specialized in her gorgeous wedding cakes, homemade candies, as well as candy and baking supplies. She always had a smile for everyone and made lasting friendships with many of her customers. She enjoyed the frequent visits held within her home, and no one ever left as strangers.
Janet looked forward to reading the paper and often shared the daily horoscopes with her family and friends. She was a devoted customer of Schwan's Home Delivery, and treated their drivers, as well as UPS, like part of her family. She felt it was easier to smile, especially when wearing her favorite red lipstick.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Melanie (Mark) Owen, John S. Wieber (Staci Swartz), Richard D. (Darla) Wieber, and; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Amber (Clay) Lattimer, Crystal (Jim) Fulk, John D. (Charlotte) Wieber, and Lisa Wieber; 6 great-grandchildren, Gavyn Fulk, Caylee Lattimer, Carson Lattimer, Alex Wieber, Beau Wieber, and Aiden Wieber; sister, Sharon (Clarence) Fracker; sister-in-law, Lanita Hood; nieces and nephews; and many special friends and caretakers, Adam, Katie, Patty, and Patti.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Wieber; son, Steve Wieber; granddaughter, Heather Wieber; and siblings, Ted Hood, Eunice (Roger) Essig, Duane Hood, Marian Westbrook, and David (Yvonne) Hood.
Memorials in Janet's name can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
