Obituary

Funeral services celebrating the life of Janet Sue Crowley, 84, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 6 P.M., Friday, November 8, 2024, with Chaplain Cory Campbell as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4-6 P.M., prior to the service.

Janet died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. She was born in Harrisburg, Illinois on May 30, 1940, daughter of the late Orville and Sylvia (Grable) Leek.

A 1958 graduate of Newark High School, Janet attended the College of Commerce and retired from National City Bank where she worked as the facilities manager. Following, Janet worked as a designer at John Edward Price Flowers.

Known for her quick wit, Janet had a great sense of humor that often brought many laughs. She was a baseball fanatic, especially when it came to cheering for the Cincinnati Reds. Janet was an avid reader, a trait she passed on to her children with weekly visits to the library in their youth. She enjoyed every genre which made her an absolute "whiz" when completing word games and puzzles.

Janet loved music of all sorts, her favorite being played while dancing the jitterbug with her late husband, John. Together as partners they won an evening competition on "Gene's Canteen", a locally televised dance show in the 1950's.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Brent (Kathleen) Crowley, Jason Crowley (fiancée, Kathy Bowles), and Jill (Mike) Evans; 3 grandchildren, Alex (Eric) Barbour, Amanda Crowley, and Jake Evans; 3 great-grandchildren, Audrey, Liam, and Ronan; brother, Rick Leek; sister, Sandy (Roger) Sturman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jim Crowley, Jan Simi, and George Kaercher; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friends, Dee and Skip DeGonia.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Crowley; brother, Jeff Leek; sisters-in-law, Patricia Leek, Judy Kaercher, and Sandy Crowley; and brother-in-law, John "Jack" Simi.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Janet's name can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
