James V. Ventura's Obituary
A Funeral Mass for James V. Ventura, 92, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 27, 2016, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Jim died at the SharonBrooke Senior Center on Saturday, January 23, 2016. He was born in Newark, Ohio on May 4, 1923 to the late Nunzio and Zita (Frizza) Ventura.
Jim, a 1942 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, served during World War II in the European theater as part of the U.S. Army 161st Airborne and 251st Combat Engineers. He was a 30 year member and former Chief of the Newark Police Auxiliary, a life member of the American Legion Post 85, and a former member of the Sons of Italy. Jim was a car enthusiast who never drove his car in the rain if it could be helped. He was formerly employed at Owens Corning, Mid-Ohio Warehouse and Arensburg Pharmacy.
Jim is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary P. (Laca) Ventura, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1946; his daughter, Susan Hannahs of Granville, and son Jeff (Kim) Ventura also of Granville. He had five grandchildren, Brian (Traci Larsen), Kyle (Amy Schweizer) and Sean Ventura, all of Granville, Joe (Lindsay) Hannahs of Columbus and Leah (Aaron) Huffman of Maineville, Ohio. His first great grandchild is due in March. Other survivors include his sister, Paula Giles of Venice, FL, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Reginald Wirick, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Giles.
Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, January 26, 2016 where the Sons of Italy will conduct a service at 6:00 P.M., and a Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 P.M.
The family requests memorials to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 66 Granville St., Newark, or Heartland Hospice, 6500 Busch Blvd., Suite 210, Columbus, OH 43229.
