Obituary

Funeral services celebrating the life of James D. Martino, 95, of Newark, will be held at REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 1 P.M., Thursday, January 5, 2023, with Deacon Patrick Wilson as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 11-1 P.M., prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Jim, a United States Air Force WWII Veteran, died peacefully at his home on Friday, December 30, 2022. He was born in Benwood, West Virginia on April 28, 1927, to the late Rosario and Nunziata (Diagostino) Martino.

A parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Jim was retired from the maintenance department at Rockwell Int. (Arvin Meritor) where he worked for 33 years. He was a member of the Rockwell Retirees, American Legion, Newark Eagles, and the V.F.W.

Jim was an avid golfer and played in the "ORF" League until the age of 91. He kept a meticulous home, only to be outdone by his yard which he took great pride in. When driving by his house, it was customary to see him working in his yard or washing his car, always ready with a friendly wave. He was a friend to many, and as his sister always stated, "an amazing man".

He will be greatly missed by his sister, Eva M. Martino Jurek; nephews, Jay Jurek and James Jurek (Dan Swisher); dear friends, Tim (Cassidy), Taylor (Dylan) and children, Ryker, Wyatt, and Hadley; Evan, and Lauren Hansel; and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Sforza) Martino; sister, Josephine Martino; and brother-in-law, Leonard Jurek.

The family is extremely grateful to the staff of Ohio's Hospice of Central Ohio, especially nurse Katie, for the comfort and care they provided to Jim.

Memorials in Jim's name can be made to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 394 East Main Street, Newark, OH 43055. To share your memory of Jim or leave a condolence for the family, please visit www.reedegan.com .
