A Funeral Mass for James W. Lannan, 92, of Newark, will be held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 5, 2016, with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.


James died at the Kindred Care & Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, March 31, 2016. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 14, 1924 to the late George Michael and Ethel Elizabeth (Lents) Lannan.

James was a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament where he helped with many of the funeral lunches. He was also a lifetime and 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 721.

While in high school, James enlisted with the United States Army and served as an army medic with one of the first MASH units during WWII. He landed on Anzio Beach, Italy and was also stationed in North Africa. In 2002, James was awarded his diploma from Newark Catholic High School through the Diocese of Columbus.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Ducks Unlimited, and IAM Local 1280 where he was also past recording secretary. James was also a lifetime member of the American Trapshooting Association and the NRA. He was past-president of the Ohio State Trap Shooting Association and runner-up for the Grand American Senior Trap Shooter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending summers at his house on Lake Erie.

James was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas where worked for 44 years as a tool and die maker with MPMS. He was a member of the Owens 25 Year Club and ran the Fiberglas Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alice "Boots" (Lavery) Lannan; his children, James "Doug" Lannan, Jeffrey Lannan, Barbara (Scott) Richards, and John Lannan; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren (soon to be 19); sisters-in-law, Cynthia Lannan and Katherine Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert (Jean), John and Edward Lannan.

Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M, Monday, April 4, 2016 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 P.M.
