A Mass of Christian Burial for James Joseph Jacquet, 92, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Friday, January 13, 2023, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 1:45 P.M, Friday, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Jim, a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 9, 2023. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to the late Fernand and Helen (Bailes) Jacquet.
Jim served 2 years with the National Guard before enlisting with the United States Army. He served in the Korean War as a combat photographer, receiving an award for one of his photographs that hung in the Pentagon for several years. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and awarded an Honor Flight in 2013.
He retired from Ohio Power/ AEP in 1992 where he worked as a supervisor in the transportation department. Jim enjoyed traveling with Freedom Years, woodworking, playing poker with his friends, and attending the many sporting events of his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 68 years, Charleen (Smith) Jacquet; children, Steve Jacquet, Tricia (Scott) Wiemers, and Darcy (Matt) Selby; grandchildren, Megan, Brad, Taylor, and Parker; sister, Kathleen White; sister-in-law, Carolyn Jacquet; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie (Lloyd) Russell, Anne (Harry) Blair, and Fred Jacquet.
Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Thursday, January 12, 2023, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
The family requests memorials in Jim's name be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 40 Granville Street, Newark, OH 43055; or the Licking County Veterans Alliance, PO Box 854, Newark, OH 43058.
