Funeral services for James Edward Hughes, 54, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 20, 2014 with Msgr. Paul Enke as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

James, a 1978 graduate of Granville High School, died at his home on Sunday, February 16, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio on November 15, 1959 to Joan (Bobot) Hughes of Newark, and the late James W. "Bill" Hughes.

James attended Northwest Technical College where he studied auto body repair and restoration. He worked for several area body shops over the years, and was featured several times in Hot Rod magazine. He also had several of his restored cars featured in car shows and parades. In addition to his love for hot rods, James also enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his mother, James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kailey and Craig "D.C." Carver; his brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Sherrie Hughes, all of Newark; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Devan, Chelsie, Heather, and Briar; aunt and uncle, Bob & Nancy Yonker of Rockledge, Florida; and cousins, Brian Yonker, and Brenda and Greg Lawson.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.
