Graveside funeral services celebrating the life of James M. Grogan, 81, of Heath, will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Johnstown, 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 19, 2025, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Calling will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, from 12 Noon – 1 P.M., Wednesday.
Jim, a United States Air Force Veteran, died at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Monday March 17, 2025. He was born in Albany, New York on April 11, 1943, to the late Albert Frederick and Cecilia (Bryfonski) Grogan.
A graduate of Cardinal McCloskey Memorial High School, Jim attended Hudson Valley Community College where he studied banking. He worked for many years in transportation and traffic management, retiring from Consolidated Freight in 2002.
Jim was an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan, especially fond of Mickey Mantle. He was very devoted to his Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Ascencion, Johnstown, and St. Mathews Catholic Church, Gahanna. He was a quiet man who enjoyed fishing and spending time on the golf course.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Judy (Kane) Grogan; his children, Jodi (Tom) Mays, Jill (Ric) Eader, Jennifer (Mike) Cloud, Jimmy Grogan, and Joey (Irene Gain) Grogan; 13 grandchildren, Holly (Nick) Zortman, Hanna (Mackenzie) Colgan Mays, Hunter Mays, Jessica Linn, Jordan Linn, Savannah (Gabe) Grubb, Shelby Cloud, Grant (Brenae) Grogan, Alexa Grogan, Ashlyn Grogan, Anthony Marcum, Korrin Roehrenbeck, and Mackenzie Grogan; 7 great-grandchildren (with another soon to be born), Amelia, Grayson, Mia, Phoenix, Autumn, Summer, and Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by and infant daughter, Juliann Grogan; granddaughter, Kaelynn Grogan.; and brother, Albert Grogan.
Memorials in Jim's name can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
