Private funeral services for James William Grant, 74, of Newark, were held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, with Rev. Daniel Fullen as celebrant and military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

James, a member of the Baptist faith, died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Sunday, July 10, 2016. He was born in Camden, New Jersey on January 6, 1942 to the late Everett Elmer and Elizabeth (Hanson) Grant.

James was a United States Army Vietnam Veteran, and served our country for over 16 years before moving to civilian life. He earned a degree from the former JVS in Auto Mechanics and worked as a tractor-trailer driver. James also spent many years in food service management, cooking at Denison University and the former "Talk of the Town" among others. He was a member of the Newark Moose Lodge and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and drag racing.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marianne (Berlet) Grant; his children, Stephanie (Andrew) Crabb and James (Denise) Grant; his grandchildren; Jillian, Melissa, Alison, and Gwendolyn Crabb, and Allison and Cassidy Myers; his sisters, Barbara (Bill) Jinks, Marie (Lou) DeSheplo, and Helen (Bob) Ramsey; brother-in-law, Joseph Huffman; sister-in-law, Michelle Pfaff; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Harold and Eddie; and his sister, Delores Huffman.
