Obituary

A Funeral Mass for James C. Egan, 91, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 25, 2017 with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Jim, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, passed peacefully at SharonBrooke Senior Residence on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania on September 26, 1925 to the late Charles T. and Marguerite (Connor) Egan.

Jim, a 1943 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, enlisted with the Navy during WWII and served until 1946. Upon his return, Jim attended Ohio University and became engaged to his future wife, Leona Faye, whom he married in 1950. He worked as a supervisor at Westinghouse Electric for 39 years, retiring in 1988. Jim was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge 391 where he was Past Exalted Ruler.

As an avid sportsman, Jim became a life-long fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the young age of 10. He played softball, golf, basketball and was a member of the St. Francis High School six-man football team.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Leona Faye (Rogers) Egan; his children, Diane Egan Young, Debra (Kenneth) Roberts, and Michael D. (Camilla) Egan; his 8 grandchildren, Ashley (Jim) Winters, Danielle (B.J. Beard) Brandon Roberts, Bradley Roberts, Kelly (Brent) Diley, Kristin Egan, Mackenzie Egan, and Brittany Egan; 6 great- grandchildren, Aubrey, Kenley, Bentley, Deklan, Xavier, and Kennedy; and his nieces, Kathy Egan and Patricia Robideaux. He will be greatly missed by all, and will always be remembered for his annual, "Papa's Pumpkin Party".

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly S. Egan; and his brother, William Egan.

Friends and family may call from 4-7 P.M., Monday, July 24, 2017 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where the Elks Lodge will conduct a service at 6:15, followed by a Vigil Service at 6:30 P.M.
