A Mass of Christian Burial for James Richard "Dick" Winters, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Wednesday, June 5, 2024, with Fr. Ed Keck as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the church for one-hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Dick died peacefully surrounded by family members on May 29, 2024 at age 85. He was born to James and Mildred (Rein) Winters on October 14, 1938, in Newark. Dick was a 1956 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, a 1961 graduate of the University of Dayton and served as a First Lieutenant, Military Intelligence in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. Dick spent his career as Human Resources Director for several manufacturing companies.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years Theresa (Gorius); his seven children Amy (Rick) Carpenter, Lori (Steve) Gilligan, Joan (Todd) Wilder, Nancy (Kelly) Bourne, Maribeth (David) Peddicord, Jim (Ashley) Winters and Barry (Emily) Winters, sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and in-laws Rosemary Triplett, Kenny Scott, Tom (Terry) Gorius, and Bob (Cindy) Gorius.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle Howard Rein, granddaughter Nicole Winters, brother-in-law Stephen Triplett and sister-in-law Patricia Scott.

Dick was a lifetime member of St. Francis de Sales parish serving as an usher for the early Sunday mass for over 55 years. Also, a lifetime member Knights of Columbus Council #721, 3rd degree (past Grand Knight) and 4th degree. Member of Elks #391 and American Legion Post #85.

The family would like to thank Dick's dedicated caregivers especially Kylie and Holly from Generation Home Health, Arlington Care Center and Bella Care Hospice.
