A Funeral Mass for James Donald "Don" Sturm, 87, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 12, 2017, with Rev. G. Michael Gribble as celebrant. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. The family will receive friends in Johnson Hall of St. Francis de Sales Lamy Center following Mass.
Don, a United States Army Korean War Veteran, died at the Flint Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, July 29, 2017. He was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 13, 1929 to the late Carl J. and Myrtle E. (Riley) Sturm Sr.
Don was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School where he also played basketball. He was retired from Westinghouse and was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He was a member of the VFW and a 3rd Degree and life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 721. Don was also an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Christine (Mark) Slebodnik, James (Peggy) Sturm, Suzanne Fairley, and Thomas (Shelley) Sturm; and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Carl (Phyllis) Sturm Jr.
