A Funeral Mass for Irma Theresa DeVault, 88, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 16, 2016 with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Irma returned home to be in the arms of her heavenly Father on Saturday, February 13, 2016. She was born in Newark, Ohio on February 26, 1927 to the late Alfredo and Noemi (Simi) Giorgetti.
Irma was a 1944 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and longtime parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. She worked for nine years with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and then worked for 30 ½ years at Park National Bank until her retirement.
She was an active member of the Licking Valley Lions Club, the Sons of Italy Rinascimento Lodge 2486, and the Licking Valley Historical Society.
Irma is survived by her husband, Donald O. DeVault whom she married in 1976; three sons and daughters-in law, Gordon L. (JoAnn) Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., Gary P. (Anne) Smith of Harrisburg, PA and Glenn E. (Annette) Smith of Newark; two grandsons, Brian Smith of Harrisburg, PA and Alan Smith of Arlington, VA.; sister, Louise Ellis of Newark, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind her step children, Ricky Lee (Dawn) DeVault of Newark, Kim Marie (Scott) Lute of Lucasville, OH and Sherry Lynn (Steve) Thomas of Conway, AK; eleven step grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren; sister in law Patricia Piche of Ojai, CA; step half brother-in-law, Albert Elder II of Greenfield, OH; step half sisters-in-laws, Peggy Elder of Bainbridge, OH and Brenda Arledge of Chillicothe.
In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul E. Smith whom she married on April 21, 1949 until his death in 1964; grandson, Jeremiah Smith; brother, George J. Giorgetti; sisters and brothers-in-law, Giselda (Gerald) Ernest; Minnie (Wayne) Andrews, and Norma (Sister Coletta O.P.) Giorgetti; and brother-in-law, Richard Ellis.
Friends and family may call from 3-8 P.M., Monday, February 15, 2016 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, with a Sons of Italy Service at 6:45 P.M.; a Lions Service at 7:30 P.M.; and a Vigil Service at 8 P.M.
