Irene Mary
Sasko
Oct 20, 1927 — May 5, 2024
Newark
Funeral services celebrating the life of Irene Mary Sasko, 96, of Newark, will be held at REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 1:00 P.M., Monday, May 13, 2024, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Calling will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will immediately follow services.
Irene passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024. She joins her late husband Rudy Sasko and beloved sister-in-law Anna Marie Renacci (Honey Lou), both of whom passed within months of each other, bringing this generational circle to a close.
Born in Essen, Germany, Irene emigrated in her early twenties to Montreal, Canada and eventually met her future husband, Rudy, while he was stationed with the US Army Air Corp. Together, they traveled extensively with the military, prior to settling in Newark, Ohio. Irene was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and volunteered with their Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Ministry of Comfort, and Women of St. Francis. She was also a member of the Newark Area Zonta Club.
One of her greatest passions was working from home with her sewing and seamstress business. Irene received great joy in designing wedding and bridesmaids' dresses, as well as doing clothing alterations for many repeat customers over the years. Her talent was limitless.
She will be greatly missed by her children: Mark (Laura) Sasko, Donna (Paul) Craven, Barbara (Scott) Courson, and David (Carla) Sasko; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Brigitta (Dieter) Ochmann; and niece and nephew, Daniela and Frank Ochmann.
The family would like to thank the Inn at Sharonbrooke for the wonderful care they provided to Irene as she transitioned into her new home; Mindy Ridenbaugh of Premier Home Health for her loving support and excellent home health care; and St. Francis de Sales Church for their spiritual support, especially Helen Sage.
Memorials in Irene's name can be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 40 Granville, Street, Newark, OH 43055.
