Harry D. Norman's Obituary
Funeral services for Harry D. Norman, 96, and his wife, Anna J. Norman, 97, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 9, 2014, with Rev. Walter Bruah as celebrant. Private Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Harry died at the Arlington Care Center on Thursday, October 2, 2014. He was born in Licking County, Ohio on August 21, 1918 to the late Harry and Lillian (Channel) Norman.
Harry, a very proud United States Army WWII Veteran, was as a Staff Sergeant with the 523rd Fighter Squadron having served in Sicily, Southern France and Central Europe. He was also a member of the VFW.
Harry was retired from White Westinghouse where he worked for many years. He was an avid golfer, and once retired, Harry spent his weekdays at the golf course for 20 years. He was devoted to AA for 40 plus years. Until his sight failed, Harry read the AA devotionals every day.
He was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather. His wife of 72 years, Anna J. (Leogrande) Norman, survived him for only 6 hours after his death. Other survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Sue Anne and Bruce Bain; his granddaughter, Sheila Nixon; his great-granddaughter, Melena Nixon; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Diana Welsh Rogers, who over the years Harry and Ann always referred to as their third daughter.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Norman; and his siblings, Geraldine (Charles) Fisher, and Robert Fisher.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M., Wednesday, October 8, 2014 and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to a military charity of your choice.
