Calling hours celebrating the life of Harry E. Burwell Jr., 76, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 1-5 P.M., Thursday, August 31, 2023. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 1 P.M., Tuesday, September 5, 2023, with Pastor Timothy Rohrbacher as celebrant, and with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Harry died at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Friday, August 25, 2023. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 15, 1946, to the late Harry E. and Alice L. (Hess) Burwell.
A 1964 graduate of Westerville High School, Harry enlisted with the United States Marine Corp, May 19, 1966, serving in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge, April 1, 1969.
Harry worked at Owens Corning as a security guard from 1969 until his retirement in 2003. Following, he continued working in security with The Longaberger Company and Securitas Security Services.
He enjoyed traveling, golfing in his younger years, playing cards and the Ohio Lottery. He loved shopping at the 21st Kroger and eating at Captain D's and Fazoli's.
As one of 12 children, Harry's love for his family was always deep and sincere. He will be dearly missed by his 11 siblings; sisters, Harriett (William) Neiser, Jacqueline Coontz, Jennifer (Timothy) Rohrbacher, Mary Burwell (Craig), Judith Horn, Rosanna Davis (Megan); brothers, James (Lucy) Burwell, Wayne (Diane) Burwell, Joseph Burwell, Jeffrey Burwell, and John Burwell; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leland C. Hess, Thelma (Bach) and Lester Kirk; and paternal grandparents, Fred and Minnie (Hunter) Burwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harry's name can be made to the Honor Flight Network, PO Box L-4016, Columbus, Ohio 43260-4106.
