Gregory Alan Hughes, 69, of Newark, passed away at the Ohio State University Hospital on September 24, 2026. Greg was born in Newark on May 22, 1957, to the late James W. and Joan J. (Bobot) Hughes.

Greg was a 1975 graduate of Granville High School and a passionate Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was a dedicated worker in the construction industry, and in the last several years before retiring from Rem Ohio, Greg found his true passion working in maintenance to enhance the lives of adults with special needs.

He was a craftsman who enjoyed creating things with his hands, fishing, playing darts, and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.

Greg will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Sherrie (Thomas) Hughes; children, Christopher Hughes, Devan Hughes, Chelsie Hughes (Dakota Moran), Heather (Kristoffer) Regenhardt, and Briar Hughes (Kiara Howard); grandchildren, Kaden, Kendalynn, Historia, and Phoenix; many nieces and nephews; lifelong best friend, Jeff Sandrian and beloved dogs, Josie, Tyke, and Bella.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his brother, James E. Hughes; maternal and paternal grandparents; and grandson, Blake Regenhardt
