Obituary

Funeral services celebrating the life of Gisela Theresia Shaw, 95, of Heath, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 28, 2017 with Fr. William Hritsko as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Gisela, a parishioner of St. Leonard Catholic Church, died at her home on Monday, July 24, 2017. She was born in Newark, Ohio on September 4, 1921 to the late Louis Sr. and Ella (Steiger) Bero.

Gisela was a graduate of Newark High School and enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her garden. She was a member of the Owens Corning Retirees and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, never forgetting to send them Birthday cards.

She is survived by her children, Jon Shaw, Theresia (Steve) Sturm, Sheila Gartner (Rickey Springtston), and Geoffrey A. Retherford; grandchildren, Marcus (Cathy) Sturm, Nicholas Sturm (Brandi Daughriety), Matthew (Amber) Sturm, David Hacker (Holly Randall), Susan (Shawn) Patterson, Haley (Patrick) Pearcy, Geoffrey M. Retherford, Justin A. Retherford, Jason M. Retherford, and Jessica S. (Zachary) Ledbetter; 22 great-grandchildren with another on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Gisela was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Shaw; her infant son, Mervin Retherford; great-grandson, Greyson; her brothers, Louis Jr., Bill, Frank, Eugene, and George Bero, infant brother Ernest Bero, and her sister, Goldie Faulkner.

Friends and family may call from 4-7 P.M., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorials in Gisela's name be made to the Bella Care Celebrate Hospice Life Foundation, 2215 Citygate Dr. Suite E Columbus, OH 43219, in gratitude for the loving and gentle care they bestowed upon her. The family would also like to acknowledge Jessica for the countless hours of care she provided for her grandmother.
