A Funeral Mass for Gene Edward Standley, 65, of Alexandria, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 7, 2017, with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.
Gene, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at Grant Medical Center on Thursday, August 31, 2017. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 3, 1952 to the late Forrest and Mary Patricia (Quinn) Standley.
A professional horn player since age 17, Gene was a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia. He free-lanced as a musician for several years and worked for 10 years with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 1990, Gene moved to the Columbus area and joined the Columbus Symphony Orchestra where he has been the Principal Horn since 1991.
When not performing, Gene spends time on the family farm with his wife and children. He also enjoys collecting and selling vinyl records through his eBay business.
Gene is survived by his wife, Jocelyn (Diklich) Standley, children, Avery, Forrest, Rosemary, and Lucas; his brothers, Ronald and Robert Standley; sister, Susan Standley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Helen Diklich; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Tim) O'Brien; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Standley; and half brother, Forrest Standley.
Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 5-9 P.M., Wednesday, September 6, 2017, where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Blessed Sacrament Restoration Fund, 394 East Main Street, Newark, Ohio 43055; or St. Vincent Haven, 115 Wilson Street, Newark, OH 43055.
