Obituary

It is with much love that the family of Gaylene Mary Bishop shares her peaceful passing on June 2, 2023, at the age of 87 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10 A.M., Wednesday, June 7, 2023, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Gaylene was born in Shelby, Ohio on December 24, 1935, to the late John Harold and Mary Ellen (Kempf) Cline. She was a 60-year parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She worked for many years in the cafeteria of Newark Catholic High School while her children were in school.

Her gentle smile and kind words were appreciated by many friends, neighbors and caregivers over the years. Her family was her greatest joy, and she rarely ended a conversation with one of them without saying, "I love you, honeybunch." Her faith sustained her, and she took special comfort in her relationship with Jesus' mother. She was known to appeal to "Mother Mary" in just about any challenging situation, big or small.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Laura (Edward) Lewis and Steven (Lisa) Bishop, son-in-law, Joseph George; grandchildren; Christopher (Katherine) George, Alexander George, Matthew (Mallory) Lewis, Michael (Ashley Gottschalk) Lewis, Andy (Tabitha) Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Jacob (Carson) Bishop, and Nicholas (Sara) Bishop; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Emmett George; sibling, Sister Lois Ann Cline; sister-in-law, Audrey Cline, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Gaylene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bishop; daughter, Linda George; son-in-law, Art Loewendick; and siblings, James Cline and Janet Beer.

The family requests that memorials in Gaylene's name be made to St. Francis de Sales Parish or Newark Catholic High School Foundation.

The family wishes to thank the staff at SharonBrooke Assisted Living and Hospice of Central Ohio for their care and compassion in her final weeks.
