A Mass of Christian Burial for Gary Dean Childers Jr., 43, of Newark, will be held at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 7, 2023, with Fr. Bill Hritsko as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

Gary passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 28, 1979, to Gary D. and Patricia (Langwasser) Childers Sr. of Heath, Ohio.

A 1998 graduate of Heath High School, Gary received his B.A. in English from The Ohio State University, though his passion was always to help people. Gary worked many years as a paramedic and volunteered at the Heath Fire Department until he got his dream job as Firefighter and Paramedic with the Columbus Division of Fire.

Gary will always be remembered for his smile and sense of humor, his love for the Cleveland Browns and the pride he had for his children. As a father of four you would find him at every football game, volleyball match, soccer field and wrestling tournament as well as all of their school functions. The pride he had for them was reciprocated in his children's eyes. They love their dad more than anything in this world.

In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by his children, Shelby Childers; Maximus, Madison, and Major Childers and their mother, Natasha Childers; sister, Robin Childers and her children, Keira, Kayla, and Kaia Haynes; maternal grandmother, Thelma Langwasser; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Richard Langwasser; and paternal grandparents, Carl Childers and Ruby Wilson.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-8 P.M., Monday, February 6, 2023, with an honor guard provided by the Columbus Division of Fire, and Vigil Service held at 7:30 P.M.
