Graveside funeral services celebrating the life of Emily Jane (Marquis) Goodin, 79, of Newark, will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark, 12:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2020, with Deacon Patrick Wilson as celebrant.
Emily, a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, on Thursday, December 24, 2020. She was born in Newark, Ohio on October 24, 1941, to the late Charles E. and Mary E. "Betty" (Ohler) Marquis.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Newark Catholic High School, known as the '59 Group. She then received her Associate Degree from The Ohio State University, Newark. Emily was a retired bookkeeper, working for a local accounting firm. Prior to this, she worked in the offices at Blessed Sacrament Church where she also served as Sacristan.
One of Emily's greatest passion was for reading books, and over the years she made weekly trips to the local library completing an unfathomable number of books read. She also loved to travel and especially enjoyed the many trips made with her sisters and her family.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Michael (Susan) Goodin, Patricia (Mark) Ankney, John Goodin, and Diane Goodin; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, siblings, Judy (Pete) Dodd, Mary (Denny) Nelson, Joann Haslinger; sisters-in-law, Janet Marquis and Judy Marquis; brother-in-law, Deacon Gordon Kunkler; aunt, Betty Ohler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Emily was preceded in death by her brothers, James F. Marquis and John J. "Jack" Marquis; sister, Janet Kunkler; and brother-in-law, Gary Haslinger.
The family requests memorials in Emily's name be made to Dawes Arboretum.
