Ellen M. Gaunder, 81, of Newark, died at AlterCare Newark North on Tuesday, March 3, 2021.  She was born in Newark, Ohio on March 22, 1939, to the late Delbert and Elizabeth (Rauch) Weisend.

A graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Ellen was a former bus driver for the West Muskingum School District, and also worked as a receptionist with First Federal Savings.  For many years, Ellen also worked beside her husband, Tom, as owner and operator of the National Trails Campground.  She was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Nativity, Utica.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Karen (Daniel) Thompson; grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Crawford, Morgan Stotts, R. Alex (Jessica) Stotts, Zachary Thompson, and Justin Thompson; son-in-law, Charles (Donna) King; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dale (Judy) Weisend, Donald (Chris) Weisend, and Judy (Bernie) Bradley; brother-in-law, Robert Gaunder; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gaunder; daughter, Barbara Gaunder King; and step-father, Donald Arbaugh.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ellen will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament a later date.
