A Funeral Mass for Elizabeth "Sissy" Lieber, 67, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 24, 2017 with Fr. Edward L. Keck as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.


Sissy, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. She was born in Newark, Ohio on June 20, 1950 to the late Paul and Elizabeth (Shea) Gorius.


Sissy was a 1968 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, where she was also a cheerleader. She retired from State Farm in July 2015 after many years and was affectionately know as "Miss State Farm."


Known for her infectious laugh and bright smile, Sissy embodied a vivacious spirit and energy. She would joyfully greet friends and family, and on occasion bless them with holy water. She enjoyed traveling with the Freedom Years, cheering for the Cincinnati Reds, and meeting her former work companions for breakfast once a month.


For many years, Sissy volunteered in the St. Francis Elementary School cafeteria, where she monitored the snack bar and became known to the children as the "Slushie Lady."


She will be greatly missed by her husband of 30 years, James Lieber; her son, John (Danielle) Lieber; step-children, Troy (Amy) Lieber and Karissa (James) Christensen; step-grandchildren, Abigail and Isabelle; her siblings, Dan Gorius, Paul (Judy) Gorius, Agnes Storer, and Michael (Karin) Gorius; brother-in-law, Don (Judy) Lieber; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, Sissy was preceded by her brothers, John and Jim Gorius; sister-in-law, Rose Ann Gorius; and great-nephew Brock Allen Spellman.


Friends and family may call from 2-6 P.M., Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 5:30 P.M.
