Elizabeth Ann Koehler, 85, of Newark, passed peacefully at the Inn at Chapel Grove in Heath, on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, with her family at her side.  She was born in Ironton, Ohio on December 23, 1934, to the late George and Elizabeth (McWilliams) Cousino.

Liz, graduated in 1953 from St. Francis de Sales High School, and attended the Newark College of Commerce.  She believed strongly in volunteerism, and worked tirelessly with the Twentieth Century Club and Camp O'Bannon, and Licking Memorial Hospital Twigs. In 2000, she retired from the City of Newark Water Department where she worked as an administrative assistant.

Liz was happiest in her garden, getting dirty and growing pretty things.  She was a skilled seamstress, cook, knitter, and artist, and there wasn't a craft, renovation, or repair she couldn't master.

She dove into each new task, project, and fundraiser with passion and commitment, focused only on the goal.  It was not her way to look back and evaluate the beautiful object she created, or witness the impact she made.

It should be noted that she did all of these things while raising five children, teaching them the arts of grace, selflessness, and perseverance. And table manners.  Odds are decent that one of those lessons will stick.

She will be forever remembered by them, their spouses, and their families; Catherine (Tim) Austin, Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Brown, Lawrence Brown, Charles Herbert (Nicole) Koehler III, and Jane (Mark) Hatfield; grandchildren Sarah Hull (David Allen-Williams), Charles (Jessica) Braunbeck, Charles Koehler, Evelyn Koehler, Wil Hatfield, and Amelia Hatfield.

In addition to her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Charles Herbert Koehler Jr., and grandson, Andrew Hull.

Liz couldn't bear the thought of anyone going without.  In this spirit, and during this time when so many of our brothers and sisters do not have enough, the family requests memorials in Liz's name be made to The Mid-Ohio Foodbank, or your local food pantry.

Graveside services celebrating Liz will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
