A Funeral Mass for Edward J. Deardurff, 88, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 23, 2017, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Ed, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at the Flint Ridge Care & Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. He was born in Newark, Ohio on March 27, 1929 to the late Edward J. and Grace G. (Mattingly) Deardurff Sr.
Ed was a 1947 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University. A United States Air Force Korean War Veteran, Ed worked as an engineer with the Air Force for many years, eventually retiring from Lockheed Martin.
Ed, devoted to his faith, was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus (Fairborn Council) and served for several years on parish council. He was a talented woodworker, enjoyed bowling, and most recently, discovered a knack for winemaking.
He is survived by his children, Edward J. III, David A. (Wanda), Mark J. (Terry), Michael J. (Tamra), and Mary K. Deardurff; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Shannon, Sarah, Rachel, James, Brett, Brooke, Erin, Nate, Christina; 2 great-grandchildren, Claudia and Walter; soon to be great-granddaughter, Carolyn; sisters, Jean (Jim) Giles and Mary Jo (Joe) Dete; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Berneburg) Deardurff.
Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Friday, September 22, 2017 where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 P.M.
