Funeral services for Edward Burkhart, 80, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. with Chaplain Richard Burgie as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Edward, a devoted husband and father, died at his home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. He was born in Cawood, Kentucky on February 22, 1935 to the late Daniel and Amanda Jane (Surgener) Burkhart.

Edward worked for 33 years for the Federal government in many locations before retiring from Newark Air Force Base in 1987. He loved "tinkering", garage sales and was one of the biggest Buckeye football fans. He had a kind and generous heart and will be greatly missed.

Edward is survived by his children and their spouses Deborah and Anthony Finchum, Scott Burkhart, Keith and Vicki Burkhart, Penney Burkhart, and Ken and Barb Burkhart, his 6 grandchildren, Holly, Jillian, Courtney, Amanda, Raechel and Timothy; 3 step-grandchildren, Allan, Brandi and Casey; 8 great grandchildren, Kathy, Dylan, Jayden, Kayleigh, Dustin, Charley, Wyatt and Graham; 2 sisters, Juanita Hensley and Louella Bray; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly. Edward also has a son James and daughter Brenda.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Roberta A. (Tyrrell) Burkhart; his grandson, Scottie Burkhart; his granddaughter with his great grandson Brittany and Cadence Coffelt; His brother, Roy Burkhart; and his sister, Irene Smith.
