Funeral services for Doyle F. Akers, 88, of Heath, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, September 1, 2015 with Pastor Steve Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 10-12 Noon, Tuesday, prior to the funeral service.
Doyle, a United States Navy WWII Veteran and member of the American Legion, died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 29, 2015. He was born in Kennett, Missouri on August 7, 1927 to the late Norman and Betsy Akers.
Doyle was retired from the FW Woolworth Company and was instrumental in opening the Southgate Woolworth location where he worked for many years as the general manager. He loved being with people and was very sociable by nature. Doyle made countless friends over the years, most recently with his many trips to the library and daily visits to Bob Evans.
He is survived by his sons, Barry D. Akers of Gahanna, and Duane N. (Becky) Akers of Heath; his daughter, Susan K. (Denny) Moore of Reynoldsburg; his grandchildren, Lance (Jennifer) Westbrook, Brandy Westbrook, Faith (Ross) Bishoff, David Akers, Jason Akers, and Rachel (Steven) Reed; and his great-grandchildren, Sofia, Makenzie, Ben, Lexi, and Sebastian.
In addition to his parents, Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (McGinnis) Akers; and one sister.
