Private funeral services for Dean Frederick Hampshire, 89, of Newark will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME with burial following in Newark Memorial Gardens and Pastor Jeff Smith as celebrant.
Dean died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was born in Knox County on May 31, 1926 to the late Archie Barton and Faye Lena (Larason) Hampshire.
He was a 1944 graduate of Utica High School and enlisted with the United States Army one month following graduation. During leave on December 21 of that year, Dean married Miriam Marie Brown, who died November 21, 2000, after 55 years of married life.
Dean worked for many years as an accountant, farmed with his father, and then followed his love of cabinetmaking. He also worked as a carpentry contractor, a factory worker and sold tools for auto mechanics.
He is survived by five sons and their families, William (Judy) of Kingwood TX, Robert of Hebron, Dale (Susie) of Mason OH, David (Tina) of Newark and Keith (Mary) of Newark; twelve grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Dean was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Connie M. Hampshire; his granddaughter Tonya Lynn; and his sister, Helen (Gene) Hartman.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public funeral service or calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Licking County Aging Program Meals on Wheels, 1058 East Main Street, Newark, Ohio 43055; or the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058.
