A Funeral Mass for Dawn Y. Huffman, 46, of Columbus, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2013, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Dawn's life will be held in Columbus at a later date.
Dawn died at her home in Columbus on Friday, October 18, 2013. She was born in Yukukoska, Japan on November 2, 1966 to Mabel Yvonne (Thompson) Sorensen of Norfolk, V.A., and the late David Sorensen Sr.
Dawn, a member of the Catholic Faith, worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 15 years and was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Union. She also worked for 10 years as a customer service representative for Meijer Stores.
Dawn enjoyed playing pool, cooking, and spending time outdoors gardening and camping. She loved her dogs Harley and Bandit, and cherished the time she spent with her close friends.
In addition to her mother, Dawn is survived by her longtime significant other, William R. Rhodes, and his children, William D. Rhodes and Amanda (Eli) Simmons; her brother and sister-in-law, David A. Jr. and Tui Sorenson of Norfolk, VA; aunts, Brenda Hardin of Granite Quarry, NC and Hazel Delores Jacobson of Roy, Utah, Pamela Yvonne Loy of Norfolk, VA; longtime special friend, Mary Pat Crocker; her former husband of 20 years, Gerald L. Huffman II; and many friends whom she considered her family.
In addition to her father, Dawn was preceded in death by her son, Gerald L. Huffman III, whom she missed dearly each day after his death.
