Funeral services with military honors for David "Bear" Wade Roberts, 82, of Newark, will be held at Dayton National Cemetery, 11 A.M. Friday, February 23, 2024. Calling hours will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Wednesday, February 21, 2024, with a service held at 6:30 P.M. conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
David died at Grant Medical Center on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 2, 1941, to the late Homer Ashley and Minnie Rose Lillian (Parsons) Roberts.
A graduate of Macomber High School, Dave was a United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran. He was dedicated to serving his fellow Veterans with the V.A. and was proud to have been on Honor Flight 121 this past May 4, 2023.
He retired as a senior model maker from Holophane after 43 years of employment and was a member of the Holophane Retirees. He enjoyed woodworking and rose gardening and was an avid collector of St. Lawrence Seaway first day covers, a hobby he started while still in high school.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Pamelia Sue (Pintz) Roberts, daughter, Kristin Roberts; son, Shawn (Rebecca) Roberts; 3 grandchildren, Brittany (Nicholas) Boyd, Jessica Roberts, Taylor (Brittany) Roberts; 3 great-grandchildren, Dean Boyd, Alana Boyd, and Onyx Roberts; sister-in-law, Kathleen Roberts; his wife's siblings and their families; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond (Norma) Swisher, Thomas (Jana) Swisher, and Joseph Roberts.
