David “Dave” James Sepos, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, on October 4, 2026. He was born on December 1, 1952, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to Albert and Jaqueline (Papanek) Sepos, both of whom preceded him in death.
Dave grew up in Heath, Ohio, and graduated from Heath High School in 1971. He went on to attend Capital University, where he served in the Air Force ROTC and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1975. He later completed graduate studies at Slippery Rock University and became a Registered Professional Geologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
On July 9, 1977, Dave married his college sweetheart, Cynthia “Cindy” Shafor, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Middletown, Ohio. Together, they shared 49 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, and adventure. They enjoyed traveling together, especially visiting the U.S. National Parks and Walt Disney World, where they made many cherished memories with their children and grandchildren.
Dave spent 45 years in the oil and gas industry. He began his career with Dowell in 1975, where he worked for 10 years. He then served 26½ years as an Oil and Gas Inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), where he was also an active member of the AFSCME Northwestern Pennsylvania Public Employees Council. After retiring from the DEP, he worked as a private consultant until fully retiring in 2018.
Dave was happiest in the sky, and flying was one of his greatest joys. Back on the ground, he loved hunting with his children and competitive pistol shooting with his son. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model airplanes and trains, and losing himself in history books, especially those about World War II and the railroad. He was an active member of the 3 Rivers Pittsburgh IPMS Chapter and proudly served on the board of directors of the C&O Historical Society.
Above all, Dave treasured his family and the time they spent together. He leaves behind his loving wife, Cindy, and their four children: Melissa (Clifton) Bauer, Andrew (Danielle) Sepos, Stephen (Kristina) Sepos, and Angela (Robert) Spates. He was a proud grandfather to Colin, Jaqueline, Levi, Mya, Deagan, and Isaiah, who brought him tremendous joy. The memories and experiences shared with his family will be cherished for generations to come.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, beginning at 6 p.m., with a short service to follow at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 9 A.M., Saturday, October 10, 2026, with Fr. Anish Thomas as celebrant. Visitation will be held in the church for 30 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will follow services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Air Force Museum Foundation, Christian Appalachian Project or the Buhl Club Parkinson’s Group Fitness Program.
