A Funeral Mass for Conrad E. Blowers, 82, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 3, 2017 with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.


Connie died at his home on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born in Marne, Ohio on May 9, 1934 to the late Roy James and Sarah Ellen (Pierce) Blowers.


A 1952 graduate of Newark High School, Connie was a United States Navy Korean War Veteran serving from 1952-1956 aboard the U.S.S. Polk County LST1084. After dedicating almost 15 years to Western Electric Company, he became co-owner and operator of Pallet Manufacturing Company, working alongside his father and sons for many years.

He was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he worked in countless capacities over the years, devoting hours each day toward the parish grounds and building maintenance. Arriving in the early morning to unlock the church and returning late in the evenings to close up, Connie would often encounter strangers in need at those odd hours. It became second nature for him to carry food in his truck, ready to share a meal, or assist them with finding safe lodging for the night. It could be said that Connie embodied a "bit of stubbornness", but combined with his overwhelming desire to do good and help others regardless of circumstance, he was truly a one of a kind individual. He also volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul and was active with the Licking County Jail Ministry.


In the late 1980's, Connie took on the role of sexton at St. Joseph and Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemeteries, where he remained as full-time caretaker until his retirement in 2015 on his 80th birthday. Following the death of his daughter, Laura Beth in 1988, he would often remark that he felt privileged to care for the place where his daughter was laid to rest; as well as the many others he came to know. Even in his retirement, Connie would visit the cemeteries daily to check on upkeep and offer support to the new staff.


Known as a storyteller, Connie loved to share tales and experiences with his many family, friends, and even strangers. His enthusiasm for these stories was infectious and often resulted in many shared smiles and laughs. He was a man of great adventure, twice traveling through Europe on a Garelli moped; as well as attempting to visit by motorcycle every Catholic Church of the Columbus Diocese to hear daily Mass.


He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce M. (Brown) Blowers; his children, Michael D. (Martha) Blowers, Nanette T. Friend (Dan Miller), Conrad Christopher "Chris" Blowers, Amy Lynne Dozier, and Matthew R. (Jennifer) Blowers; 18 grandchildren, Sarah (Jonathan) Harper, Ellen Blowers (Shane King), Ann Blowers, Frank "Jamie" Friend (Danielle), Jodi (Jason) Ingram, Jillian (Jason) Peck, Jennifer (Jon) Hammond, Jessica Nixon, Carlos and Antonio Blowers, E6 Tech Sergeant Daniel Blowers II, Krista Snyder, Karmen Strickland, Maldred Conrad "M.C." Blowers, Corey John (Brie) Blowers, Emma, Ella, and Simon Blowers; 26 great-grandchildren, James, Joshua, Dustin (Danielle), James "Danny" (Kendra), Cole F., Christopher, Jacob, Ethan, Dylan, Kaylynn, Blake, Jace, Ainsley, Sofia, Jaxson, Garrett, Haiden, Kighlyn, Rowan, Locklan, Savannah, Kody, KC, Sidnei, Juliet and Cole B.; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Joshua, Dustin, Isabella, Lyla and Leonard; his sister, Beverly E. Kelley, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


In addition to his parents, Connie was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Beth Blowers; his sons, Daniel Thomas Blowers and John Patrick Blowers; and his brothers, David L. and Donald K. Blowers.


Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 2-6 P.M., Sunday, April 2, 2017, where a Vigil Service will be held at 5:30 P.M.
