A celebration of life honoring Clarence "Cooky" Hoey, 86, of Newark, will be held at the Newark Elks Lodge, 73 N. 3 rd Street, Newark, 5-7 P.M., Monday, May 24, 2021. Burial will take place this same day, 11 A.M., in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Eric Wright as celebrant.
Clarence died at Mt. Carmel East Hospital from complications occurring during heart surgery on Friday, April 16, 2021. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 5, 1934, to the late Joseph and Clara (Christ) Hoey, and was a 1953 graduate of Newark High School.
Cooky was a realtor in Licking County since 1969 and first worked for Furman Tinon Real Estate. In 1988 he formed a partnership with long time friend Jack Maier known as Maier-Hoey Associates Realtors. Previously, Cooky worked for Best Jewelers and Automagic Inc. where he served as Regional Supervisor for 15 years.
He was a member of the Licking County Board of Realtors, National Council of Exchanger and the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his daughter Kamie (Paul) Wickham of Charlotte, NC., and grandchildren Elizabeth and John Wickham. Extended special family: Shelly Beckman, David and Denise Ghiloni, and Dino and Valerie Ghiloni all of Newark; Marilyn and Joe Gleeson of Richmond, Indiana; Don and Debbie Ghiloni, and Bill and Mary Ghiloni, all of Grand Junction, Colorado; Albert and Melodie Ghiloni of Mason, Ohio, and Oliver his pet cat who was unlovable by everyone else.
In addition to his parents and stepfather Edward Patrick, Cooky was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Nancy Ghiloni of Newark; and ex-wife Sheila Hoey of Newark and Charlotte, NC.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Newark Catholic High School Foundation, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio 43055.
