Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Clara Anna Herrman, 106 years, 4 months, 5 days, of Newark; and her son Philip, 75, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 5, 2019, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark. Friends and family may call at the church for one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday.

Clara died at the Middleton Senior Living Center on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. She was born in Summit County, Ohio on August 28, 1912 to the late Aaron and La Verta (Smith) Kepler.

She moved to Newark in 1949, following time in Manchester, Canton and Mt. Vernon, and was retired from John J. Carroll's Department Store where she worked in the accessory department. Clara was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was a member of the Women of St. Francis, Arimathean Society, Historical Society and Genealogy Society.

Playing the piano was a large part of Clara's life. She enjoyed making someone's day by reaching out to them with a note or phone call. She will be remembered as a peacemaker with a good sense of humor, and for the many prayers that she offered for others.

She is survived by her grandson, Michael and Coletta Herrman; half-sisters, Janet and Judy Kepler; niece, Kathy Wyatt; nephew, Clifford and Stephonie Freeman; former daughter-in-law, Ruth Herrman; and many longtime friends from St. Francis de Sales Parish.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Herrman in 1978; her son, Philip Herrman in 2013; brother, Wilbur Kepler; half-brothers, Victor Kepler and Roy Freeman; half-sister, Doris Kepler; and step-sister, Kathryn Freeman Worner.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many caregivers of Middleton Senior Living and Hospice of Central Ohio for their continued dedication and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058; or a charity of your choice.
