Funeral services for Chester J. Carter, 78, of Wellston, OH and formerly of Alexandria, OH, will be held at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11 A.M., Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with Chaplain Dave Mason as celebrant. Interment will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. Calling will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 22 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
Chester was a graduate of Northridge High School and a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Chester was born in Jackson County, OH on November 28, 1947 to the late Harold and Esther (Salyers) Carter. He had bravely fought bladder cancer that developed into bone cancer. Throughout his time on earth, Chester served in many capacities, including as a maintenance supervisor at Pizza Crust and a heavy equipment operator. He greatly enjoyed drag racing and hunting.
Chester is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Sites) Carter; son, Michael Carter; daughter, Michelle (Robert) Ray; great-granddaughter/daughter, Lily Ray; grandchildren, Alex Carter, Elijah Carter, Tabi Carter, Chelsie Ray, Eleni Ray, and Kayla Ray; great-grandson, Conor Ray; and sister, Delores Crouse of Canal Winchester.
The family suggests that memorials in Chester’s name be made to his wife, Phyllis Carter, to assist with funeral and burial expenses.
“Let not your hearts be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
