Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Cheri Lynn Evans, 61, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2021, with Fr. Mark Ghiloni as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Cheri, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 23, 2021. She was born at the United States Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia on December 20, 1960, to the late James and Shirley (White) Huddy, but raised in her parent's hometown of Newark, Ohio.

Known for her bright smile, Cheri graduated from Newark High School in 1979 where she lent her soprano to the school glee club. After graduation she attended The Ohio State University, Newark, and spent her career working for Motorola, Freescale, and Abbott Laboratories, among others. Cheri lived in Mesa, Arizona for 18 years where she and her husband raised their beloved daughter and developed innumerable lasting friendships. She returned to her hometown of Newark in 2006 and reconnected with an old family friend, Joe Evans. They fell in love and became engaged while traveling through Tuscany, marrying shortly thereafter.

Cheri never met a stranger and made all who entered her home feel welcome. She worked hard to make her house a home, and loved to host family and friends for any occasion, spending hours baking, cooking, and setting the perfect table. Her kindness was genuine and easily felt by her many friends and family.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Joseph Evans; her daughter, Katherine Murphy (Travis Pietila) and her father, Shane Murphy; step-daughter, Andrea (Joe) Thelen; grandchildren, Joey and Raylan; brother, Jon Huddy; mother-in-law, Joan Evans; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nancy (Dean) Anderson, Mike (Jill) Evans, Bill (Jo-Ella) Evans, and Peggy Evans; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cheri was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Barb Evans; and father-in-law, Robert Evans.

Friends and family may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Due to COVID, masks are required for all services at the funeral home and the church.
