Funeral services for Charles William Solak, 86, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 12 Noon, Wednesday, April 1, 2015 with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service on Wednesday.
Charles, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born in Bradley, Ohio on December 23, 1928 to the late Joseph F. and Catherine (Villo) Solak.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving as a Naval Aviation Electrician patrolling the Panama Canal. Charles was a 1947 graduate of Warren Consolidated High School in Tiltonsville, Ohio and retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation of Heath, Ohio.
Charles was an avid golfer and little league coach in the North Newark and Kiwanis baseball leagues for many years. He was a faithful Newark Catholic Green Wave and Ohio State Buckeye's fan. Charles enjoyed attending his grandson's participation in sports, his daughters' many dance recitals, and handing out treats to his canine buddy, Rocco.
He was the devoted husband of Laura (Bibbo) Solak, who he married on January 17, 1951; the loving father of Debra (Kevin) Blake of Cincinnati, and Christina "Tina" Lock of Newark; and the proud grandfather of Brandon Lock of Columbus. Charles is also survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Bibbo of Rayland, Ohio; 3 nieces and 4 nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son, David; and three brothers, Bertram, Thomas, and Kenneth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 40 Granville, Street, Newark, Ohio; or the Newark Catholic Athletic Association, 1 Green Wave Drive, Ohio.
