Funeral services celebrating the life of Charles "Butch" E. Ruff II, 82, of Newark, will be held at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 6 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2026, with Deacon Patrick Wilson as celebrant. Calling will be held from 4-6 P.M., Friday, prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark, 10 A.M., Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Butch died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Sunday, March 22, 2026. He was born in Newark, Ohio on December 3, 1943, to the late Charles E. and Marguerite Susie (Gildea) Ruff Sr.
A 1961 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, Butch began his working career as a machinist at Newark Stove (Roper), joining Essex, Zanesville in the 1960's. These acquaintances earned him a spot with the Newark Pipeline and he eventually joined Rockwell (Arvin Meritor), working 32 years as a Tool & Die maker. He also worked in mechanical maintenance on weekends at Anheuser-Busch.
Butch enjoyed golf and loved working with cars, especially the older models. If not in the garage, he could be seen working in his yard, a pastime that he also enjoyed. Above all, Butch was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, and high-school sweetheart, Glenda (Arbaugh) Ruff; children, Christine (Michael) Schumaker, Kimberly (Steve) Green, and Charles (Robin) Ruff; 5 grandchildren, Brandon (Rachel) Schumaker, Brian Schumaker (Monica Farley), Sam Green, Maddy Green, and Taylor Ruff; 3 great-grandchildren, Heidi, Hannah, and Jase; and his brother, Stephen Gildea Ruff.
Memorials in Butch's name can be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or School.
