Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Charles H. Clarke, 93, of Hebron, will be held in the Our Mother Sorrows Chapel of St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lockbourne, 11 A.M. Wednesday, October 23, 2024, with Fr. Timothy Hayes as celebrant.  Interment in the cemetery will immediately follow the Mass.

Charles, a United States Army Korean War Veteran, died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Friday, October 18, 2024.  He was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 30, 1931, to the late Hervey and Martha Clarke.

Charles was a member of the Brick Layers Union and also served as a firefighter with the city of Columbus for 30 years, retiring as lieutenant from Station 21. He served in many capacities and had worked with the division of arson and the bomb squad.

A parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Charles was a 4th Degree member and Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Michael J. Ready Council 0830, and 3rd Degree member and Past Grand Night of St. Edward Knights of Columbus Council 10876. He was an outdoorsman, having enjoyed fishing and hunting over the years. Charles always found something to keep himself busy and always working on a project. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He will be greatly missed by his sons, Mark Clarke, Michael (Linda) Clarke, and Matthew (Denise) Clarke; 6 grandchildren and great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, JoAnn (Schall) Clarke; and sisters, Alvada, Louise, and Virginia.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 2-3 P.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2024, with honor guard provided by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Michael J. Ready Council 0830.
